A/Prof Damon Bell

MB ChB, PhD, FRACP, FFSc, FRCPA, FCSANZ

Damon Bell gained his MB ChB from Otago University in 2000. He undertook physician training in Wellington, New Zealand and specialised in Endocrinology, where he subsequently trained as a Chemical Pathologist. Damon was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2009 and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2010. 

Damon moved to Perth in 2010 to further his expertise in inherited lipid disorders and to gain experience with novel lipid lowering treatments. He has a strong research interest and pursued a PhD part time from the University of Western Australia. He was awarded a PhD for a thesis entitled “Optimising strategies for the detection of familial hypercholesterolaemia” in 2016. He works as a Clinical Academic (associate professor) at Royal Perth Hospital with clinics in lipidology, hypertension and consults with the Adult inborn errors of metabolism service. As a dual trained physician endocrinologist and chemical pathologist he possess a very strong knowledge of both the investigation and management of endocrine and metabolic conditions, with a special interest in cardiovascular prevention. He has published over 85 peer-reviewed manuscripts in addition to numerous abstracts and posters. He gained Fellowship of the Faculty of Science of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2017, in recognition of his expertise and contribution to medical science. He is also a Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. Additionally, Damon is a sessional Chemical Pathologist for Clinipath Pathology and PathWest, based at RoyalPerth and Fiona Stanley Hospital, he has subspecialty expertise in the genetic aspects lipid disorders, hypertension and diabetes. 

Damon’s clinical private practice is located at 302 Selby Street North Osborne Park. His major interests are lipid disorders (inherited and acquired) endocrine hypertension and cardiovascular risk.
